TAKING YOU TO NEW OCTAVES
Octave Studios believes it is important to be collaborative when building your lesson time. You will bring to the table interests and ideas that we will add to a curriculum that is tailor made for you.
During Voice lessons our starting point will be to learn about the voice as an instrument, how it works and how to take care of it. We will then take some time working through exercises and music that will be a vital stepping stone in learning how to sing with a healthy voice. Understanding how to sing with a healthy voice will enable you to sing any style you like! In addition, we will work on the performance aspect of any piece you will be working on.
Whether you want to sing classically in languages such as Italian, German, or Spanish, jazz, or pop, well be making music in no time.
On top of all that... you can count on having a blast while singing your heart out!
During Piano lessons our starting point will be proper technique at the piano paired with music theory so you can read music like its second nature and play any style of music for your family and friends!
***Remember, practicing every day for at least 25 minutes you will progress quickly which will keep you encouraged and wanting more!
Kate Bissinger, owner and founder of Octave Studios, grew up with music and teaching all around her. Her mom a singer and music teacher, and her dad a professor of physical education. From the time she was 6 months old she would move in rhythm to any music she heard.
Throughout Kate's life she has studied voice, piano, flute, and dance. These studies led her to West Virginia University where she received her degree in Vocal Performance. There she had the privilege of studying with artist in residence Augusto Paglialunga. Mr. Paglialunga taught her the importance of starting with a healthy voice no matter what style she planned on performing. From singing opera and jazz in college to singing pop music and dancing while touring the country, she first started with a healthy voice and every style fell into place.
When asked why she now teaches, Kate had this to say, "I teach because I love people and I love to see student's excitement for what they are learning. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to allow my passion for music spur on future performers!"
Kate lives north west of Philadelphia.
Kate will recommend books or resources after assessing your goals and needs during the first lesson and will continue to recommend them as the students goals are met. Any books/resources will be purchased by the student/family. Assigned music should be brought to each lesson.
For Piano lessons, it is important to have a piano or appropriate keyboard to practice on before you begin taking lessons. (An appropriate keyboard is full size, 88 keys, has a stand and bench, is touch sensitive, has weighted keys, and a pedal attachment.)
Payment for lessons can be made at the beginning of the month for that month’s scheduled lessons or one payment can be made for 4 months of scheduled lessons. (For the latter option, payments would be made at the beginning of September, January, and May.) In certain circumstances a different payment plan may be scheduled by Kate.
Cancelations must be made 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time, otherwise payment is still expected for missed lessons. Cancelled lessons may be rescheduled if the student is sick and missed school or work that day, gives notice 24 hours prior, will be traveling during lesson time, or if Kate is sick and unable to teach.
Please arrive on time for your lesson. If you arrive early, wait outside until your specific lesson time to come in as to not disturb the student before you.
